Former president slams Pakistan’s airstrike in Kunar
Former president Hamid Karzai has condemned Pakistan’s airstrikes in eastern Kunar province as a brazen act of aggression against Afghanistan’s territorial integrity.
AVA- On Wednesday, Pakistani helicopters crossed the Durand Line in violation of Afghanistan’s air-space and dropped bombs in the Dangam district.
In a statement from his office, Karzai denounced the raid as an open violation of international law. He urged Pakistan not to repeat such adventurism and behave like a good neighbour.
The erstwhile president called for the neighbour to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and thereby pave the ground for peace and stability in the region.
Speaking to an International Security Summit in Russia yesterday, he called Afghanistan a victim of terrorism, with some countries trying to use it for achieving their own objectives.
The emergence of Daesh -- or Islamic State -- was totally questionable in the presence of US and international troops in Afghanistan, Karzai remarked.
He strongly opposed airstrikes on villages and civilian houses, stressing the need for peace -- the only solution to Afghanistan’s problems.
