At least 24 percent of qualified Afghans are job seekers across the country, the labor minister Faizullah Zaki said, stressing the need to create an effective solution to overcome unemployment in Afghanistan.

Addressing the national labor conference, the minister said the purpose of the event is to create a clear roadmap for reducing the unemployment rate in the country.
“The important parts of the roadmap should include identifying new policies required, implementing a comprehensive and effective research strategy and development budget for this year, national budget arrangements for the coming years based on measuring job creation capacity, identifying all necessary measures to encourage, support and strengthen the private sector, including large, medium and small enterprises,” said Zaki.
At the same event, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said the conference will create further coordination between government, the private sector and the international community to overcome unemployment.
“The private sector has invested a lot, but our private sector has finally come to regret their investment due to bureaucracy and corruption,” said Abdullah.
According to the labor ministry, plans for a better environment will be provided for private sector investment and capacity building of a local workforce will be implemented shortly after the conclusion of the conference.
Members of Afghanistan’s labor union called for more opportunities in the country for the coming years.
