Ministry orders closure of schools in embattled Farah province
Afghanistan's Ministry of Education on Thursday ordered that schools in Farah to be closed until improvement of security situation in the western province.
Security situation in Farah province, near the border with Iran, has been deteriorating and on Tuesday Taliban fighters fought their way close to the center of the provincial capital city, triggering fierce clashes with the Afghan forces that left hundreds dead.
“Considering grave security concerns, the ministry of education declares that schools and other education centers in Farah province will be off until stabilization of the situation to protect students, teachers and education employees,” the Ministry of Education said in a statement.
It ordered local authorities to delay teaching and exams until the next instruction which it said would be given after one month.
