Rocket attack foiled on Kabul city
The Afghan national defense and security forces thwarted a plot by the anti-government armed militant groups to carry out rocket attack on Kabul city.
AVA- The Kabul police commandment said at least four long range rockets prepared for the attack were discovered and seized from Qargha district of Kabul.
The source further added that the rockets were successfully defused by the Explosives Ordinance Team of the Afghan security forces.
The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.
This comes as the Kabul Criminal Investigation Department said last week that a large explosion was thwarted in the capital after an improvised explosive device was discovered and seized from Qarabagh district.
The anti-government armed militant groups frequently use explosives materials for the roadside bombings and car bombings to target the government staff and security personnel.
However, in majority of such incidents the ordinary civilians are targeted besides such bombings incur casualties to the security personnel and in some cases the Taliban militants themselves are killed or wounded.
A total of 10,453 civilian casualties – 3,438 people killed and 7,015 injured – were documented in the 2017 Annual Report released last month by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the UN Human Rights Office.
The report further added that the high number of casualties to the civilians were inflicted by suicide bombings and other attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
