Thirty-four militants and seven police were killed and 14 people were wounded in daily violence in Afghanistan, authorities said Monday.
AVA- In one incident, 12 civilians were wounded after an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated at a public picnic area in Chaparhar district, eastern Nangarhar province roughly at 9:00 a.m. local time Monday, the provincial government said in a statement.
Among the injured three of them who sustained serious wounds were shifted to a main hospital in provincial capital Jalalabad city, the statement said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
In northern Jawzjan province, seven police personnel were killed and two others wounded after Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint in Khoja Bolan, on outskirts of provincial capital Shiberghan city Sunday night, a provincial official Abdul Rahman Mahmoodi, deputy provincial governor, told media.
The militants destroyed the checkpoint and took weapons and ammunition before fleeing the attack site, he added.
Also in Nangarhar, 34 Taliban militants were killed after Special Operations Forces of National Directorate of Security (NDS), the country's primary intelligence agency raided a Taliban hideout in Zawi area of Khogyani district of Nangarhar Sunday night.
The security forces also destroyed weapons and explosive materials.
The Taliban-led insurgency has been on the rampage since the beginning of 2015 when the Afghan security forces assumed full responsibilities of security from the United States and NATO troops.
The militants also intensified attacks against security forces and staged several coordinated large-scale attacks against Afghan cities and districts after they launched a yearly rebel offensive on April 25.
