Syrian army captures Nasib border crossing with Jordan: state TV
The Syrian army on Friday captured the Nasib border crossing, the only operative border crossing with Jordan, following a two-week long battle in the southern province of Daraa, according to the state TV.
AVA- The TV said the Syrian army raised the Syrian flag over Nasib crossing, which is in the southeastern countryside of Daraa on the outskirts of a town under the same name.
Activists said Syrian police reached the crossing, which the Syrian army lost to rebels in 2015.
The Syrian army has been on a wide-scale offensive in Daraa over the past two weeks, managing recently to retake several border posts with Jordan before capturing the official Nasib crossing.
Meanwhile, activists said that the rebel factions in southern Syria said they reached a deal with Russia on Friday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said both the Russians, who are representing the Syrian government side, and the rebels agreed on a comprehensive cease-fire from all sides.
They also agree on the deployment of the Russian police in the countryside of Daraa and near the border crossing with Jordan.
Under the deal, the rebels will hand over their heavy weapons in exchange for the withdrawal of the Syrian government forces from four towns in the eastern countryside of Daraa.
The Syrian side will also have to open a safe passage for the rebels and their families, who reject the deal with the government side, toward rebel-held areas in Idlib province in northwestern Syria.
The Syrian army has been following the tactic of military operations in tandem with offers of reconciliation in Daraa since starting the military campaign on June 19.
The army captured areas by force and entered other areas through the Russia-backed reconciliations. The observatory said the army has captured nearly 70 percent of Daraa.
