Saving lives: WHO upgrades trauma care services in Kapisa Provincial Hospital

AVA- The project, which started in November 2017, included construction and equipping of the emergency ward and the operation theatre and training of medical staff and community health workers on Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Trauma Care, triage and First Aid Trauma Care.
Within the emergency ward there is an emergency care ward and two operation theatres (including one for patients with infections). The emergency ward and the operation theatres were equipped with all the necessary equipment for surgery and trauma care.
The construction was completed in April 2018, and the center was officially inaugurated on 30 June 2018 by the Governor of Kapisa Abdul Latif Murad, the Minister of Public Health Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz and WHO Representative in Afghanistan, Dr Richard Peeperkorn.
During the inauguration, the Governor of Kapisa thanked WHO for the organization’s valuable support to the hospital and hoped the support will continue in the future.
Dr. Peeperkorn affirmed his commitment to supporting the MoPH: “Strengthening of trauma care services will save lives. We remain committed to supporting the upgrading of local capacities for effective trauma care, which is important especially now in the face of escalating violence and rising numbers of civilian casualties in Afghanistan.”
The project was largely funded through Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF), and the training and procurement of emergency kits were provided through multi-donor pool of funding.
