160 injured in 5.9-magnitude quake in west Kermanshah, Iran
An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hits a town in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah, injuring at least 156 people.
AVA- The tremor struck the town of Salas-e-Babajani on Sunday in Kermanshah Province, which was also hit by a massive tremor in November 2017.
Governor of Kermanshah Houshang Bazvand told Iranian local media that eight people were hospitalized and others were treated as outpatient and discharged from hospital.
He added that the quake left no one dead, but damaged 54 residential buildings.
The provincial official stated that forces from the Iranian Red Crescent Society were dispatched to the quake-hit areas to help people.
Bazvand said the tremor was felt in most cities of Kermanshah Province causing people to pour onto streets in panic.
Sunday’s earthquake also jolted three other neighboring provinces, but left no casualties or damage there.
The initial tremor was followed by a number of smaller aftershocks.
More than 500 people have lost their lives and thousands others sustained injuries when a major earthquake struck several areas in Kermanshah Province last year. It caused extensive material damage there.
