28 Taliban eliminated in Ghazni clearing operation
Twenty-eight Taliban militants have been killed and several others wounded in a clearing operation in the Khogyani district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Saturday.
Provincial police chief Col. Farid Ahmad Mashal told Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces conducted the offensive in many parts of the district. He said 28 insurgents were killed.
Mohammad Kamran, a resident of the district, confirmed heavy clashes that erupted late Friday night were still ongoing. Even the district centre had been shifted close to the provincial capital, he added.
Without commenting on the operation, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed killing Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander named Allauddin in Qarabagh district late on Friday.
But the police chief said that Allauddin was not an ALP commander, but an ordinary policeman.
