NATO service members, Afghan soldiers suffer casualties in suicide attack
The NATO and Afghan forces suffered casualties in a suicide attack carried out earlier today in eastern parts of the country.
The Resolute Support Mission led by NATO in a statement said “Three Resolute Support service members were killed by a suicide bomber during a patrol with Afghan forces in eastern Afghanistan, August 5.”
The statement further added that another Resolute Support service member, which U.S. Forces-Afghanistan acknowledged was an American, and two Afghan National Army soldiers were also injured in the blast.
“My thoughts and prayers, along with those of all of the 41 Resolute Support nations, are with the families and friends of our fallen and wounded service members, and our injured Afghan brothers and their families,” said U.S. Army Gen. John Nicholson, Resolute Support and U.S. Forces-Afghanistan commander. “Their sacrifice on behalf of the Afghan people and our coalition will endure in both our hearts and history, and further strengthen our resolve.”
No further details have been given regarding the exact location of the incident.
However, the local authorities in Parwan province said the attack was carried out earlier today in Khalazai area of the province.
A spokesperson for the provincial government Wahid Shahkar confirmed that the attack was carried out at around 6am local time.
