Political parties launch protests in Kabul in connection to elections
The supporters of several political parties and movements have launched demonstrations in various parts of Kabul in regards to the upcoming parliamentary and district council elections.
AVA- Jamiat Islami and Hezb Islami supporters are among dozens of other political parties who started the protests after a two-week deadline to government ended last week.
The demonstrations are currently underway in five parts of the city but the protesters are warning that they would further expand their rallies and would continue to their protests until the government and the election commission has not responded positively to their demands.
They also issued a joint statement at the launch of the protests and warned that a large portion of the votes of people would be lost during the elections mainly due to the lack of proper monitoring.
The statement further added that the political parties and movements shared their demands and recommendations with the government, election commission, UN in Afghanistan, and other other international institutions which have not been accepted.
The political leaders demand the launch of biometric registration of the voters for the upcoming elections under the supervision of the technical teams and a change in the electoral system as per the demands of the political parties, movements, and leaders.
The joint declaration issued at the end of the political leaders meeting over two weeks ago also included the facilitation of the monitoring facilities during the electoral processes.
