Afghanistan plans to expand trade, transit ties with Iran
The governor of Afghan province of Harat said here Tuesday that the Kabul government was planning to broaden trade and transit ties with Iran.
AVA- In a meeting with the governor general of Khorassan Razavi province and a group of provincial businessmen, Mohammad Asef Rahimi said the two countries have taken strides towards cooperation in various economic, scientific, cultural and sports fields.
In the healthcare sector, he said, sophisticated surgical operations including kidney transplant have been carried out in Harat province in cooperation with Iranian specialized physicians.
He said narcotic drugs production and human trafficking are among the main problems facing Afghanistan for which terrorist groups should be blamed.
Also speaking at the meeting, Iran's consul general in Harat Mahmoud Afkhami said expansion of communications with neighboring countries is among the priorities of Iranian foreign policy.
Harat with an area of 55,000 square kilometers and a population of 1.8 million is the third largest province of Afghanistan. It is located west of Afghanistan bordering Khorassan Razavi province.
