De Maiwand Atalan F.C Gets Last Minute Sponsor
Ahmad Javid Jaihoon, a local businessman, signed a one-year sponsorship contract for De Maiwand Atalan football team on Sunday in Kabul – just hours before this year’s Afghanistan Premier League (APL) kicked off.

The agreement was signed between Jaihoon, the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) and Afghanistan Premier League (APL).
Speaking at a press conference with officials from AFF and APL, Jaihoon said he will sponsor the team for one-year.
Jaihoon signed the sponsorship agreement just hours before the launch of the 7th annual APL tournament that kicks off in Kabul on Sunday evening.
“After this, I will be with our athletes and our team will welcome them,” said Jaihoon.
“Unless the private sector supports athletes and until they stand by them, Afghanistan’s sport will not continue to develop,” said Shafiq Gawhari, APL commissioner.
“One of the ways that we can improve the level of Afghan football on an Asian level is through sponsorships,” said Mohammad Yousuf Kargar, AFF technical deputy.
This comes after another one-year sponsorship agreement was signed on Saturday for Shaheen Asmayee football team. Another local businessman, Fada Mohammad Salih, also signed the agreement with the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) and Afghanistan Premier League (APL).
Salih, said at a press conference with officials from AFF and APL that he will support the Afghanistan Football Federation in the long-run.
“Our aim is to make the country proud through sport,” said Salih.
Eight teams representing eight zones of the country will take part is this year’s APL which will be held at the AFF football stadium.
The APL was scheduled to kick off earlier this year, but it was delayed due to a lack of funding.
Meanwhile, athletes see such sponsorships as being of financial support to Afghanistan for the development of football in the country.
“Teams need to be sponsored if the private sector can support teams, I think football will improve a lot and our youth will have significant improvements,” said Abdulhaq Faizi De Maiwand Atalan coach.
The 7th annual APL tournament will kick off in Kabul Sunday evening and the opening match will be between Shaheen Asmayee and Mawjhai Amu teams.
