Biometrics use slows down voting process, says Abdullah
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Saturday said the voting process went at a slow-paced due to the first time use of biometric verification system.
Voting in the Wolesi Jirga election kicked off on Saturday nation-wide except the southern Ghazni and Kandahar provinces.
Abdullah, who waited for more than half an hour outside a polling station in Kabul to cast his vote, said despite security threats to the voting process, necessary arrangements for the conduct of the election were in place. He asked local residents to cooperate with security forces in maintaining security for polling stations.
In response to his wait at the polling station where he arrived to vote, the CEO said: “The staff of this polling station needed more instructions, which they received and now the voting process has been accelerated.”
The CEO said the slow-paced voting might last until 9am in many polling stations. Abdullah said the election commission should pay attention to the problem and make sure people were not deprived of voting.
