Ignoring Senate summons rebellion, security bosses told
Meshrano Jirga members on Monday said the refusal of top security officials to appear before the Senate amounted to rebellion.

The Meshrano Jirga had summoned Defense Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak and National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief Masum Stanikzai to brief the senators about security situation of the country, night raids, civilian casualties, power cutting to Nangarhar and Laghman provinces and some other issues.
However, second deputy chairman of the upper house, Mohammad Alam Izdyar, who chaired today’s session, said that the defense and interior ministers were not present in Kabul and the NDS chief was also busy on some programs.
He said the officials had apologized for not appearing before the Meshrano Jirga and they sent their deputies to the house instead.
Zalmai Zabuli, a senator from Zabul province, said: “For how long they will ignore us, all government’s works are done through the Senate, despite being independent, the government is indifferent to the house.”
Senator Gulalai Akbari from Badakhshan province said acting mines and petroleum minister previously excused from appearing and said he was outside the country, but he was present in the Cabinet meeting last night.
Nadir Baloch, a senator from Nimroz province, said that the government should be accountable for requests of public representatives.
A number of other senators made similar remarks.
Izidyar said not attending the upper house by the security bosses was an insult to senators. “If the officials are present in Kabul, but not attend our meeting, then it is a rebellion,” he said.
The senators decided to summon the security bosses for next session of the house on Sunday.
