Afghan plane mistakenly sends hijack alert, triggering scare at Delhi airport

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 11 Nov 2018 - 11:41

An Ariana Afghan Airlines flight was reportedly delayed at Delhi airport after its pilot mistakenly sent a hijack alert, triggering a security scare.

The flight bound for Kandahar was scheduled to take-off at 3:30p.m. but it was delayed for two hours, local media reported.
The pilot had entered a hijack alert by mistake, which forced Indian authorities to take the plane to the isolation bay and surrounded by security personnel.
A total of 124 passengers and nine crew members were on board and the passengers had to go through secondary security checks before the plane was cleared for departure.
The situation pushed even the anti-terror force National Security Guard into action.
The error happened as the captain, Pokai Naomi, was telling the co-pilot about entering Code 7500 to inform the air traffic control about the hijack, said Kumar Rajesh Chandra, security director general for Bureau of Civil Aviation.
