Path to peace full of obstacles: Ghani
The path to peace in Afghanistan is not smooth as it has ups and downs, President Ashraf Ghani said Saturday.

Ghani said this in a meeting with representatives of multiple civil society organizations as part of consultative discussions on peace.
The president said that Afghan youth’s role in peace negotiations should be significant since the gains and losses will have long term consequences for them.
He said that the younger generation represenst the new Afghanistan, one that is willing to forget the past and look what lies ahead. He stated that the route to peace is full of obstacles, and “we need to be ready to employ all available tools for gaining a positive outcome.”
He reiterated that any peace agreement must be ratified nationally before taking effect.
Efforts on Afghan peace accelerated when the United States appointed a special envoy in this regard in September.
Zalmay Khalilzad has met with Afghan politicians and the Taliban to facilitate peace talks and has called on Kabul and the insurgent group to form their negotiating teams.
The meetings to discuss the advisory board for peace process and formation of a negotiating team with Taliban started last week, and will continue for several days to come, according to the presidency.
