Taliban abduct 60 Samangan truckers for not paying imposed toll
The Taliban abducted 60 drivers of coal supplying trucks in the Dara-i-Suf Payan district of northern Samangan province on Sunday, an official said.
AVA- District Chief Abdul Mateen told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident happened in the Dara-i-Khusk locality early on Sunday.
He said the Taliban asked the truck drivers to give them 7,000 Afghanis per truck as toll.
He added most areas of the district were under the Taliban control and such incident would continue to happen if the area is not cleared of the Taliban.
The district chief said the Taliban abducted the truck conductors but released them soon.
A released conductor said the Taliban demanded 14,000 afghanis from drivers who supplied coal to Mazar-i-Sharif and 6,000 from the drivers who supplied coal to Aibak.
Police Spokesman Munir Rahimi acknowledged the incident and added the number of abducted persons is 45. He added the Taliban demanded their imposed tax on them which the driver rejected to pay.
He said police had arrived in the area and efforts had been on for their quick release.
