The head-on collision took place on the Islam Qala-Herat highway in Rozang area, said Herat police spokesman.

He said exact figures about the victims were not immediately known, but several people had lost their lives in the crash.
Kohsan district mayor and some engineers were said to be among the dead.
Herat ambulance service official Ibrahim Mohammadi told Pajhwok that nine people, all men, had been killed in the accident on the Islam Qala-Herat highway.
