IECC has no right to invalidate all Kabul votes: Muslimyar
The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) has no right to invalidate the votes of a specific electoral constituency, Senate Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar said on Sunday referring the invalidation of all votes in Kabul.
AVA- The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Thursday announced invalidation of votes cast at all polling stations in Kabul due to fraud and rigging.
However, shortly after the announcement, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Thursday evening rejected the IECC’s decision as hasty and politically motivated.
The upper house on Sunday debated over the invalidation of all Kabul votes.
Lawmaker Maker Abdullah Qarluq said: “Difference between IEC and IECC will push the country towards crisis. If the situation remained the same Allah knows how the two commissions would conduct the upcoming presidential polls.”
Maulvi Muhauddin Munsif, a lawmaker from Kapesa province, said: “The IECC should not deviate from its position if it has evidence otherwise the complaints commission should be investigated because it is playing with the law.”
He said the IECC has the authority to invalidate a vote on the bases of complaint, adding the commission has no right to invalidate the votes a specific constituency.
Senate chairman asked the IEC to act in line with the law.
