Public Order Police commander killed in Taliban assault

A Public Order Police commander was killed and five of his subordinates were wounded in a Taliban attack in northern Kunduz province on Sunday, an official said.



Lt. Col. Zahir, administrative chief for Khanabad district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militant assault took place in the Chahartot area of the district this morning.
He said the militants attacked the vehicle of POP Commander Lt. Col. Shah Tawoos. He added Tawoos was killed and five personnel of the force were wounded.
Nek Mohammad, an eyewitness, said: “I was heading to Takhar from Kunduz. The pick-up vehicle was attacked in Chahartot area where the militants opened fire at it and then hit it with a rocket.”
He added several individuals travelling in vehicle suffered burn injuries.
Toryal Kakar, a member of the provincial council, acknowledged the Kunduz-Takhar highway had been unstable for the past several years.
