More than 20 killed in Taliban Attack in South Afghanistan
More than 20 people were killed, including members of government forces and insurgents, in a Taliban attack on a security checkpoint in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, local authorities said today.
AVA- At least seven border police guards and 16 members of the Taliban movement were killed in the clash, the provincial media office reported.

Four Kabul troops and 11 rebels were also injured in the clash, according to the report.

Equipped with heavy weapons, the Taliban attacked a security post of border troops in the village of Nawa in the district of Spin Boldak, detailed the statement quoted by local media network.

So far, the Taliban has not commented on the incident, but according to Afghan authorities the group has been carrying out assaults like this almost daily.

In recent months and despite efforts to end 17 years of conflict in this country, the Taliban have increased their attacks on security forces and government facilities in recent months, while Afghan and U.S. troops have increased ground and air operations against rebel action areas.

Since 2001, Afghanistan has experienced a situation of political, social and security instability, which is the result of the intervention of the United States and its NATO allies and has become more acute after the constant confrontations between the different poles in dispute in the nation.
