Parliamentary system to cause chaos, warns Samoun

خبرگزاری Afghn Voice Agency(AVA) , 21 Jan 2019 - 23:30

The Afghan Samoun Association (ASA) on Monday warned politicians against switching to a parliamentary form of government from the presidential system under the current circumstances.

AVA- In a statement, the association said candidates have jumped into the presidential race with different slogans, including change in the government system.
“The sustainability of the democratic system may be put in danger if a few individuals for the sake of power opt to change the system,” the statement said.
It added such a move would lead into people losing trust in the system, unstable government and differences among the three pillar of government --- the legislature, the executive and judiciary.
“In a parliamentary system, the president is nominal and all powers rest with the prime minister, but in Afghanistan the president represents a specific ethnic group. Which may not accept a president with no power and authority.”
The ASA believed switching to the parliamentary system in current circumstances could cause instability in the system and disintegrate the masses.
The Samoun Association asked the presidential hopefuls and their deputies to avoid pledges which could harm democracy.
