No blind trust in the Taliban in U.S. administration: John Bolton

Speaking to CNN, Bolton said President Trump has decided that it is going to be important to try to keep a counter-terrorism presence in Afghanistan and that is a central part of these discussions.



The National Security Adviser of the United States John Bolton has said there is no blind trust in Taliban in President Donald Trump’s administration as negotiations are underway between the U.S. and Taliban representatives in Qatar to find a negotiated settlement for the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan with Taliban demanding full withdrawal of foreign forces.
Speaking to CNN, Bolton said President Trump has decided that it is going to be important to try to keep a counter-terrorism presence in Afghanistan and that is a central part of these discussions.
“I can tell you that senior national security officials have been discussing this issue and how to try to bring it about, how to support the diplomacy but follow our counter-terrorism objectives continuously we will be doing some more of it this week, it is a very important point, we putting a lot of energy in it but there is no blind trust in the Taliban in this administration, that is for sure,” he added.
This comes as negotiations are underway between the U.S. and Taliban representatives in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
The Taliban has long been emphasizing on complete withdrawal of the foreign forces from Afghanistan as the main condition of the group to join peace process and end the conflict in Afghanistan.
