Mohib Stresses Regional Countries' Role In Afghan Peace

6 Mar 2019 - 16:12

National Security Advisor Hamdullah Muhib on Tuesday mer Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov in Tashkent and discussed issues around the Afghan peace and relations between the two countries.

In this meeting, Mohib stressed the regional countries' role in Afghan peace and said stability in Afghanistan is crucial for the region, the NSA's office said in a statement.

“Peace in Afghanistan is peace in the region, and countries in the region can play a vital role in this regard,” Mohib said.

The sides also discussed economic as well as transit and trade relations between the two countries, the statement added.

Kamilov, meanwhile, briefed Muhib on his recent engagements with the Taliban and the US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in Doha, said the statement.

Kamilov said peace is possible when it is Afghan-led, Afghan-owned, and is controlled by the Afghan government and that there is no way to bring peace except for direct dialogue with the Afghan government.

Mohib acknowledged the position of Uzbekistan in supporting the Afghan peace process, and said the Kabul's conference third round will focus on the role of regional countries in the peace process.
