The Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) says 50 women and hundreds of men have been arrested during the outgoing solar year over drugs trafficking charge.

Khalid Mowahid, CJTF spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the cases of the detained women were currently under process with the CJTF.
Of the detained women, 10 tried to smuggle drugs in their stomachs and bags via the Kabul International Airport to India and the UAE, he said.
He said some mafia groups were misusing poor and needy people and encouraging them to smuggle drugs in return for money.
"They try to use women for drugs trafficking because it simplifies the process when women are engaged”, he said.
Mwoahid added economic problems, domestic violence and unawareness among women were reasons behind women’s falling prey to mafia groups.
“As women in the Afghan culture are respected and police and security forces often avoid searching them, drug traffickers are increasing involving women”, he added.
He added the CJTF was now working on a program to provide awareness to women about drugs and the relevant law.
Based on Article 61 of the Counternarcotics Law, if a woman is arrested over drug trafficking and she provides adequate information to investigation officers about the main people involved in the drug trafficking, it would significantly decrease their prison sentence.”
Mowahid said only two women were arrested over drug trafficking in 1391 solar year (2012), compared to 50 women during the outgoing solar year that ends on March 21.
Last solar year, 28 women were arrested in connection with drugs smuggling and the number of women drug traffickers in 2013 was 16.
in 2014, 18 women were arrested and their number reduced to 15 in 2015, but surged to 28 in 2016 and 2017 each.
