3 killed, 31 injured in New Year celebrations blasts in southern Afghanistan
At least three Afghans were killed and 31 others wounded after two explosions rocked Lashkar Gah, capital of southern province of Helmand during the New Year celebrations on Saturday, an official said.
AVA- "The latest findings showed our three countrymen were killed and 31 injured in Saturday morning's blasts in Lashkar Gah," Nasrat Rahimi, a Ministry of Interior Affairs spokesman, told local media Tolo News TV.
Local officials and ordinary people were celebrating the Afghan New Year and the National Farmers' Day in Lashkar Gah's sports stadium when two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted inside the compound were detonated, he said.
Unofficial sources said that among the killed was the chairman of provincial economy department, and several local officials sustained injuries in the blasts.
The wounded were shifted to a war victims surgical hospital in the city.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
On Thursday, about six civilians were killed and 23 others wounded following three consecutive blasts in Afghan capital Kabul, where thousands of Afghan citizens were attending an event to celebrate the New Year.
