Afghan Lawmaker Mir Rahman Rahmani has been elected as speaker of the Lower House of Afghan Parliament, Wolesi Jirga, hours after the second round of voting for the election of the House speaker ended without any result.

Rahmani had earlier received 123 votes during the voting session against the 55 votes which were casted in favour of Kamal Nasir Osoli.
Both candidates had failed to receive the required votes (124 votes) to be elected as the speaker of the Lower House.
The announcement regarding the election of Rahmani as House speaker was made by acting speaker Ata Mohamamd Dehqanpur.
In the meantime, certain lawmakers in the Lower House have said that they have reservations regarding the decision to elect Rahmani as House speaker.
