Taliban seeking revival of Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan: Nabil

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 2 Jun 2019 - 16:28

The Taliban are seeking revival of Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, former Afghan intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil said on Sunday, amid peace talks between the United States and the Taliban.

Nabil, who is a candidate for September presidential election, said that the Taliban are seeking whole power in Afghanistan.
He said that the Taliban are taking advantage of US desire to withdraw from Afghanistan and division among Afghan elites.
Under the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate during 1996-2001, women were banned from work and not allowed to leave the house without a male relative.
Referring to claim by a former adviser to President Ashraf Ghani that women are given government positions in return for sexual favours to officials in the presidency, Nabil said that an independent special prosecutor should investigate the claim
