India signs MoUs for $2.5 million development projects in Afghanistan

The projects cover various sectors including education, water management, retaining walls, school buildings, hospitals, government buildings and roads, Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar said at the signing ceremony in Kabul. They will be implemented in 10 provinces in different zones of the country.
“All projects have direct meaning, implication and benefits for the ordinary people of Afghanistan living in these provinces,” Kumar said.
India has completed 345 small and high-impact community development projects since 2005 when it started the projects with an outlay of more than $200 million, the envoy said, adding 200 projects are being implemented.
All Indian development projects will directly contribute to Afghan economy, he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Abdullah appreciated India’s assistance to Afghanistan, saying its development projects help improve living condition.
He, however, warned government institutions not to commit negligence in implementing such projects, as he said that there were instances in which the projects were delayed only because they needed signatures.
“These are not personal projects, these are the people’s projects,” Abdullah said.
