Helmand security council meeting focus on peace, presidential elections

The senior government and security officials met in Helmand province to discuss the ongoing efforts for peace and upcoming presidential elections.



The officials met during a security shura (council) meeting and promised support towards peace in Afghanistan, by protecting the people of Helmand during the presidential election.
Afghan National Army 215th Corps Commander, BG Zabihulla, Helmand Provincial Governor MG Yasin, Helmand Police Chief Esahmuddin, NDS Chief Taous, and an IEC Representative met to discuss the safety and security of people and polling sites during the elections.
The officials discussed prospects for peace through security partnership across both Helmand and Nimroz Provinces.
215th Corps Commander Zabihulla said “The Afghan people have the right to determine the future and the leadership of the country. There is no place in Helmand we cannot go in order to protect the people.”
This comes as efforts are underway to find a political solution to end the conflict in the country.
Meanwhile, the presidential elections are scheduled for 28th of September.
