Tolo News , 21 Aug 2019 - 17:25

Afghanistan's air cargo exports to India have yet to restart despite Pakistan reopening its airspace last month.

Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce said that no Indian airline has transported Afghan goods to India through air corridor.
It said that only two Afghan airlines are transporting Afghan goods to India that too in passenger flights.
Khan Jan Alokozay, deputy head of the Chamber of Commerce, said that only 61 tonnes of Afghan goods have been exported to India since Pakistan reopened its airspace on 15th July.
He said that tensions between India and Pakistan have also caused blocking of Afghan exports to India through Wagah land port.
Pakistan reopened its airspace to civil aviation, nearly five months after it was closed following a standoff with India.
Afghanistan launched air corridor program in recent years with an aim to open up alternative to the land route from the Pakistani port of Karachi.
So far, 8,000 tonnes of Afghan goods have been exported through air corridors to European, Central Asian and South Asian countries.
