Ashraf Ghani and Imran Khan discuss key issues during a telephone conversation

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 19 Sep 2019 - 11:32

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan discussed key issues during a telephone conversation late on Wednesday.

Ghani said in a Twitter post “Pleased to have received phone call from prime minister Imran Khan last night. He offered his condolences regarding the loss of lives due to terrorist attacks in Parwan and Kabul.”
He also added “We also discussed the peace process and upcoming elections.”
Furthermore, Ghani said “As there’s precedence of Pakistan’s help in reduction of violence during past elections, I ask Pakistan to help mitigate violence in the next one. PM Khan promised help within their capacity.”
Khan had earlier said it would be a big tragedy if Afghan peace talks don’t make headway.
Speaking during a ceremony at Torkham crossing earlier on Thursday Khan said “We will put our best (effort) that these talks are resumed again.”
Furthermore, Khan said Pakistan had directed Taliban leaders to participate in earlier peace talks in Qatar and only discovered too late that talks had broken down.
He also added that his next role would have been to convince the Taliban to open talks with the Afghan government.
