Taliban explosives cache explodes in northern Afghanistan

The incident happened Sunday night in the Khan Abad district, where a weapons and arms supply storage and a mine-making factory of the Taliban militants exploded, leaving a building of rice cleaning machine, a mill and three residential units completely destroyed, deputy district chief Qudratullah Safi told media.
Hundreds of tons of rice and wheat have been burned during the blast, said the official.
"Nobody was hurt when the blast took place, but people sustained huge financial losses as a result," said the official.
Taliban militants have been using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to make roadside bombs and landmines. The Afghan security forces found and defused 12 IEDs in Faryab and Paktia provinces on Sunday, the Interior Ministry said earlier in the day.
No immediate cause has been disclosed for the explosion yet and the Taliban militants have not commented on the report.
