Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 2 Nov 2019 - 18:45

Officials on Saturday formally inaugurated a 220-kilovolt (kV) power substation in Arghundi area of Paghman district, Kabul.

The substation cost $20 million, which was funded by the Asian Development Bank, officials of power utility Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat said.
The transmission capacity of the substation is 126 mega volt ampere. Work on the substation had started in June 2016.
DABS head Amanullah Ghalib said that the substation will reduce power outages in Kabul and other provinces in its neighbourhood by 80 percent.
Afghanistan generates only 25 percent of its electricity domestically and the lines bringing power in from Uzbekistan have been attacked regularly.
Kabul Governor Yaqub Haidari called for formation of tribal elders to spread awareness among people to protect power pylons.
