NATO is committed to stay in Afghanistan to create the conditions for a political solution, chief of the alliance said on Thursday.

The more we convey the message that we are willing to stay in Afghanistan, and we are sending that message, the more likely it is that actually Taliban one day will understand they have to make real compromises and agrees to a peace deal,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stolteberg said Speaking at Körber Global LeadersDialogue in Germany.
He said that NATO went into Afghanistan together and “we will make decisions on our posture and presence together and when the time is right we will leave together.”
He said that the best way to create the conditions for a peaceful negotiated solution in Afghanistan is to send the clear message to the Taliban that they will not win on the battlefield.
“As long as Taliban understand that they will not win on the battlefield, they have to sit down and engage in real peace talks and make real compromises,” Stoltenberg said.
He said that now Afghan forces are doing what 140,000 NATO forces did not so many years ago. He said that NATO is committed to train, advise and assist Afghan forces to enable them fight against terrorism in their own country.
