Two people were killed as Taliban militants opened fire at residents who protested against them in Afghanistan's northern Sar-e Pul province, the country's army said on Sunday.

Residents took to the streets in Jirghan village of Kohistanat district of Sar-e Pul province to protest against “inhuman behaviour” of the Taliban, army’s 209 Shaheen Corps said in a statement.
They destroyed several vehicles of the Taliban including one belonging to the group’s shadow governor for the district identified as Amanullah Mansoor, the statement said.
In response, Taliban militants fired at protesters, killing two people including a child and wounding six others, according to the statement.
