Taliban abduct 27 members of People's Peace Movement in west Afghanistan

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 25 Dec 2019 - 18:25

Taliban militants have abducted 27 members of People's Peace Movement on a highway between Farah and Herat provinces in western Afghanistan, the movement's spokesman said on Wednesday.

The victims were travelling in vehicles when they were stopped by militants around 5:00p.m. in Farah on Tuesday, said Bismillah Watandost, a spokesman for PPM, adding the convoy had left Helmand 15 days ago.
“We hope that our colleagues are unharmed and get out of the Taliban-controlled area safely,” he said.
PPM began last year as a sit-in and hunger strike in response to a Taliban bombing at a wrestling match in Helmand capital Lashkargah.
Members of the movement have walked hundreds of kilometres, calling for peace.
Watandost said that it was the fourth time that the Taliban abduct members of PPM.
“Despite having talked with the Taliban and resolving their concerns, such incidents continue to happen,” he said.
