The Islamic State said it was behind a rocket attack against Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

The attack occurred early Thursday and involved five rockets being fired at the U.S. base, according to NATO-led Operation Resolute Support. The mission said it would be “investigating the incident.”
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, which came as the fractious Afghan government attempts to negotiate peace with the Taliban after a peace deal was signed Feb. 29 by U.S. special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban political chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. The Taliban said it had no hand in Tuesday’s attack.
ISIS, through its Khorasan Province branch, has killed scores of people in Afghanistan and has often clashed with both the Afghan government and the Taliban, which are mutual enemies of the terrorist group.
Last month the group attacked a ceremony attended by numerous high-level political figures, including Abdullah Abdullah, who is the main opposition leader against Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and claims himself to be the rightful president after a contentious election. The attack killed dozens, with ISKP later posting a photo claiming to be the perpetrators.
