Doctors in Parwan province on Tuesday asked residents to stay home and comply with the health and hygiene guidelines suggested by the Ministry of Health to stop the COVID-19 threat.
They warned that there will be more cases of COVID-19 in the country the public does not follow the directives of the Health Ministry.
Doctors said that residents should "show mercy" to their families by staying at home.
This comes a day after the Health Ministry reported 591 new positive coronavirus cases, bringing the total number cases in the country to 11,582.
“We are ready to serve our people against any illness that will create a challenge for them,” said Hamid Alimi Zhakfar, a doctor in Parwan.
“We must act upon the health guidelines of the Ministry of Health and take the coronavirus seriously,” added doctor Zhakfar.
Meanwhile, local officials in Parwan have said that there are not enough facilities for COVID-19 patients in the province.
“Up to 60 doctors were hired, and our request was approved for a 20-bed COVID-19 hospital, but this does not meet our needs,” said Shah Wali Shaheed, the deputy governor of Parwan.
“The people should act on the social distancing rules or this will lead to a major tragedy,” said Shafiqullah, a COVID-19 patient.
The population of Parwan is estimated to be around 600,000.
Residents in the province have called on the Ministry of Public Health to establish a COVID-19 lab to take samples for testing.
