Afghan special forces' bid to arrest former football chief fails

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 24 Aug 2020 - 12:29

Afghan special forces carried out an operation in Panjshir province last night to arrest former president of Afghanistan Football Federation, Keramuddin Karim, but failed, an official said Monday.

Mansoor Enabi, a spokesman for provincial governor, told 1TV that the operation was launched around 1:00 p.m.
He said that the operation was carried out without coordination with local authorities.
Afghan authorities issued an arrest warrant for Karim in June last year in connection with allegations that he sexually abused female players for several years.
Nearly a month ago, President Ghani called on the people of Panjshir, including his former rival Abdullah Abdullah, to expel Karim or help security forces arrest him.
