Eight people died when a boat sank in a river in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, officials said.

The incident happened in the area of Kajaki dam, the provincial office of national electricity company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) said.
Those died included also women and children.
The company said that electricity and water supply was stopped to search for bodies of the victims.
