At least four civilians were killed and 10 others were wounded in a mortar attack in northern Faryab province on Thursday morning, local officials said.

The incident happened around 11:00am local time after a mortar round landed in a market in Shareen Tagab district of the province, said Abdul Karim Yourish, a spokesman for the provincial police chief.
“The mortar was fired 'by the Taliban' to target the security forces, but all the victims are civilians who were at the market to shop,” Yourish said.
The Taliban has not commented on the attack.
