The reverse consequences of Russian sanctions

27 Jun 2022 - 9:08

As the West seeks to impose a seventh package of sanctions on Russia, European officials have acknowledged the consequences of the sanctions.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: As Western allies discuss the seventh package of sanctions against Russia, Europe is consuming all of its gas reserves, and some EU politicians have acknowledged the consequences of reversing their sanctions policies.

"We urge member states to increase investment in renewables," said Maidar McGuinness, the European Commissioner for Financial Stability, according to RT. Ireland is not dependent on Russian gas, but on gas imports from elsewhere. But in the event of market turmoil resulting from both Russia's actions and our sanctions, we will face consequences.

"What we are experiencing right now is that the more we agree to sanctions, the worse it will be," said Balaz Urban, a senior adviser to the Hungarian prime minister. What about the Russians? Yes, sanctions hurt them, but they do last. And even worse, they continue to make progress in Ukraine. So we have to think about negotiation, ceasefire, peace and diplomacy, that is our solution.

"We have to do everything we can to store as much gas as possible in the summer and fall, and we will do that," said Robert Hubbek, Germany's economy minister and deputy chancellor. Gas consumption must continue to decrease and more gas must be stored, otherwise the situation will be really difficult in winter.
