Aftershock Shakes Quake-Hit Southeast Afghanistan Again

28 Jun 2022 - 14:37

A new aftershock struck the earthquake-stricken Paktika province in Afghanistan.

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA)_Monitoring, “This morning at 4:15 a.m., Paktika experienced a powerful earthquake. No one was injured or killed,” RFE / RL Afghanistan quoted Hekmatullah Esmat, the Taliban’s Director of Public Health in Paktika province.

Another aftershock on June 24th in the quake-hit southeast region of Afghanistan left 5 more fatalities.
More than 1,000 people have died and at least 1,500 have been injured as a result of the devastating earthquake, which is the deadliest to strike Afghanistan in 20 years.

The earthquake is also reported to have caused a destruction of over 10,000 homes, leaving many people homeless.

In a June 26 update, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) reported that the catastrophic earthquake that devastated southeast Afghanistan last week had claimed at least 155 children’s lives.

While aid flow continues to the impoverished quake-hit villages in Pakitka, the UN humanitarian office also warned that the people affected by the earthquake are at high risk of a disease outbreak.
