The United States has imposed sanctions on several Chinese companies for allegedly collaborating with the Russian military
The US government has imposed sanctions on five Chinese companies for allegedly supporting Russian military bases and the defense industry. The companies are said to have been added to the Commerce Department's blacklist for violating sanctions imposed on Russia following the US-led invasion of Ukraine.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA), Alan Steves, Deputy Minister of Commerce for Industry and Security, said in a statement after the announcement of the embargo on Chinese companies that today's action sends a strong message to institutions and individuals around the world that if they seek to support Russia the United States will cut them off.
He stressed that the Chinese companies had provided items to Russian companies before the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, and that they had continued to sign contracts to supply products to the Russian-sanctioned parties after the attack.
The US Department of Commerce also says it has added 31 other countries to its sanctions list, including the United Arab Emirates, Lithuania, Singapore, Britain, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Russia.
The US official also added that China's policies have become more aggressive, but the US is not looking for an Asian NATO to confront China.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday (June 29) that the Chinese companies had provided items to the Russian military without confirming or denying the allegations. Has stressed that China opposes US sanctions against Russia.
He said that China and Russia conduct normal trade cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interests, and that this relationship should not be interfered with or restricted by any third party.
The Chinese embassy in Washington also said in a statement that Beijing had not provided military assistance to Russia or Ukraine. The embassy added that it would take steps to protect the rights of its embargoed companies.
Blacklisting Chinese companies means that US suppliers of these companies will need the permission of the US Department of Commerce before sending items to these companies.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the United States and the West have imposed extensive sanctions on Moscow aimed at ending its military aggression against Ukraine.
In addition to Russia, it has been said that countries and companies that cooperate with Russia in the defense and military sectors will be sanctioned by Western countries.
