Russia withdrew from several agreements with the Council of Europe

By order of the Prime Minister of Russia, the country withdrew from several agreements with the Council of Europe.


Afghan Voice News Agency (AVA), According to this order, Russia will withdraw from the Council of Europe's international cooperation group in the field of combating drugs and addiction, cooperation agreement for prevention and protection against natural disasters.
 
According to the TASS news agency, in addition, Russia will no longer participate in the Council of Europe's cultural support fund and the European Audiovisual Observatory.
 
Russia joined the Council of Europe 26 years ago, and since 1996, this country has signed several agreements with the Council.
 
Following the increase in tensions between Russia and European countries due to the start of the war in Ukraine and amid increasing pressure to revoke Russia's membership in the Council of Europe, Moscow announced in August/March that it will withdraw from the Council.
 
The decision ends Russia's quarter-century membership of the council and also allows Moscow to reinstate the death penalty if authorities decide to do so.
 
Roxit literally means that Russia will no longer be a signatory to the European Convention on Human Rights, and its citizens will no longer be able to submit a request to the European Court of Human Rights.
