Australia investigates war crimes committed by its soldiers in Afghanistan

4 Jul 2022 - 9:00

The Australian government has announced that it is saddened by the "shameful crimes" of its soldiers in Afghanistan and will pursue it separately.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Richard Miles; Australia's new defense minister has admitted in a news conference that his soldiers committed a shameful war crime during their mission in Afghanistan, and the trial of the perpetrators continues.

He called the crimes of this country's soldiers in Afghanistan the most tragic and terrible case in the history of the Australian army and emphasized that this case should be fully investigated and finalized and then the criminals should be tried.

In recent years, the Australian media has published investigative reports that prove that Australian forces in Afghanistan committed war crimes and were involved in at least 39 horrific killings of civilians, and documents on the torture of civilians were also published.

It should be noted that the Australian government promised last year that it would prosecute the soldiers who committed war crimes in Afghanistan, but so far no practical steps have been taken in this regard by the country's courts.
