The population of Afghan immigrants in Turkey reached 300 thousand people

9 Sep 2022 - 16:40

The Guardian newspaper reported that after the fall of the previous government in Afghanistan, about 300,000 Afghans took refuge in Turkey.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Guardian newspaper published a report saying that after the fall of the previous government in Afghanistan, 300,000 Afghans took refuge in Turkey.

This report, which was published, Wednesday (September 7), added that these people went to Turkey through dangerous routes and smuggling.

Based on this report, with the deterioration of the economic situation in Turkey, the citizens of this country have expressed their dissatisfaction with the presence of Syrian and Afghan immigrants and accuse them of taking over jobs and increasing rent.

Currently, Turkey hosts four million Syrian refugees with several hundreds of thousands of Afghan and other nationalities.

Since one year since the Turks are facing a bad economic situation with high inflation and the drop in the value of the lira, they have expressed their dissatisfaction with the presence of Syrian and Afghan immigrants.

The Guardian wrote that according to polls, the majority of Turks want refugees to be sent back to their countries.

Anger against refugees in Turkey has grown to the point where right-wing anti-immigrant tendencies have infiltrated mainstream politics.

One of the staunch opponents of the presence of foreign immigrants is the right-wing representative named Omit Ozdagh.

He claims that the refugees are an invading army that is part of an international conspiracy to destroy the Turkish nation.

Although the right-wing representative's party is newly formed and still marginal, as elsewhere in Europe, far-right politicians are forcing mainstream parties to adopt populist policies to please the public.

Currently, it is said that even for Afghans who entered Turkey legally and can prove that they have a good income, it has become very difficult to get a residence card.

As it becomes difficult for Afghan immigrants to stay in Turkey, many of them face the constant risk of deportation from this country.
