White Cane Safety Day Marked in Kabul

Marwa, 10, said she has not been provided with education opportunities. “There are problems with schooling. Sometimes, we don’t have textbooks and sometimes we don’t have transportation,” she said.

The participants of the gathering called on the people to treat well with visually impaired individuals.

“The blind people are facing a lot of problems in Afghanistan. If they don’t have anyone to support them economically, they cannot play a vital role in society,” said Mohammad Ihsan Fayaz, head of an organization for visually impaired individuals.

Kabul Visually Impaired Vocational Institute said that it provides education facilities to more than 250 individuals.

“There is no job for visually impaired people. Also, there are no education opportunities for them,” said Noor Mohammad Faizi, head of the Kabul Visually Impaired Vocational Institute.

A football competition was held among visually impaired individuals as part of the ceremony.
